The Sustainable Furnishings Council contacted Bob’s Discount Furniture in 2018 and the folks at Bob’s immediately wanted to do their part and become more involved in the sustainability effort.
As part of the process, they first gathered information on sustainability and engaged their vendor partners to align on strategy. Although Bob’s considers itself to be in the beginning stages of the journey, the company has several sustainability initiatives in place that help keep the earth healthy.
Responsible wood sourcing: Bob’s is committed to using natural resources responsibly.
Mattress recycling: In 2018, Bob’s recycled 68,292 pieces of bedding. That’s a lot of mattresses that won’t go to landfills!
Furniture donation: Bob’s tries to utilize ALL furniture. The company gives back to local organizations and charities and donates all possible furniture, rather than throwing it away.
Foam and plastic recycling: In 2018, Bob’s recycled 377 tons of foam and 634 tons of plastic film.
Chair box recycling: Bob’s uses each dining chair delivery box for up to four deliveries, saving 232,000 boxes per year — 4,400 boxes per week!
