Since its inception in 2011, the founders of urbangreen realized the importance of using non-toxic materials for the employees’ and customers’ health benefits. This led to the conclusion that they must also use responsibly sourced wood for the health of the environment. urbangreen is a company founded to sustain a healthy future, and is committed to using the resources available to us today without harming future generations’ ability to meet their own needs.
An important step in urbangreen’s implementation of its commitment is verifying Forest Stewardship Council FSC certifications and accuracy of terminology used by vendors. urbangreen looks for certified wood as a matter of policy. In working with the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC), the people at urbangreen have learned to be more vigilant. They also improved their efforts to discuss the purpose of using certified wood with their customers.
urbangreen has learned that using local vendors who source their wood from the local region is the best way to guarantee responsible wood sourcing while also reducing carbon footprint. That is an excellent strategy! urbangreen also uses FSC-certified particle board when they need it for some components. This is especially important because a composite, like particle board, can be a great place to hide illegally logged wood – you will not find any of that at urbangreen!
urbangreen furniture is sought after because of its made-in-NYC design as well as its policies and practices. Customers, employees and the community appreciate the measures urbangreen takes to make sure they use responsibly sourced wood and human-safe finishes.
Literature on all products is available for customers in both showrooms. Employees are trained to know what FSC wood is, where it comes from, and why the company uses it. So the sales staff is primed to answer any questions. The owner is a GREEN Accredited Professional and the showrooms proudly display the SFC Member seal.
At urbangreen, all materials have a purpose. These folks minimize waste and strive to recycle at every stage of production. Finishes, plywood and glues are non-toxic. urbangreen also works with their energy company to reduce consumption, responding to guidelines and going beyond them.
